With a preface by Eleanous Sinclair Rohde and calligraphy by Margaret Shipton Author: Pass, Crispin van de Place: London Publisher: Cresset Press Date: 1928-1929 Description: 2 volumes. [xvii, 82; xviii, 129 pp., errata slip tipped into Vol. I]. Engraved titles & 103 engraved plates; all texts rendered calligraphically. (oblong small folio) 18.8x28 cm (7½x11"), full vellum, spines lettered in gilt. One of 30 copies printed on Arnold hand-made paper and bound in vellum. Beautifully engraved and finely printed edition of this classic florilegium first published in Utrecht and Arnheim in 1614-1616 with the text variously in Latin, French, and English. Volume I of this set is numbered "Out of Series: Not for Sale," and Volume II is numbered IX. The limitation page in Volume I calls for 50 sets on hand-made paper, and the reduced number is announced on the errata slip. There were also 500 unnumbered copies printed on mould-made paper and bound in quarter leather. Ransom, p. 238, # 8. Lot Amendments Condition: Slight rubbing to spine lettering, else very good.
