Hoskins, George Alexander TRAVELS IN ETHIOPIA, ABOVE THE SECOND CATARACT OF THE NILE. LONDON: LONGMAN AND OTHERS, 1835 FIRST EDITION, 4to (285 x 220mm.), xx, 368pp., folding engraved map backed on linen, 54 plates (most lithographed, 2 hand-coloured, 4 chromolithographed, some folding), original pictorial dark green cloth, yellow endpapers, slipcase, frontispiece and map somewhat spotted Hoskins travelled to Ethiopia in 1833 in the company of an Italian artist, L. Bandoni. The illustrations for this volume, by Hullmandel and dated 6 April 1835, are apparently the earliest English chromolithographs published.
