A recasting of Book 3 of the Treatise, in which "Hume's correction of some 'negligences' in reasoning, the addition of new arguments, and a restructuring of main themes give the later work a philosophical significance in its own right" (Cambridge Companion to Hume p 311). Hume judged it "of all my writings, historical, philosophical, or literary, incomparably the best" (Fieser pp 19-20). Jessop p 22.
