Amsterdam: for the author, Jacobus van Herdenberg, 1700. 8 o (151 x 97 mm). 12 etchings by Jan Luyken ILLUMINATED IN GOLD AND COLORS IN A CONTEMPORARY HAND. 18th-century Dutch red morocco, richly gilt (slight and even fading to spine, minor wear to joints and spine ends). Provenance : acquired from Lathrop C. Harper, 1965. FIRST EDITION. A magnificently illuminated copy of Dutch poetry of the 17th century. The 12 illustrations by Jan Luyken one of the finest engravers of the time, are delicately colored by hand. There are genre scenes, rural and domestic, gardens etc. and also religious subjects.
