Manuscript on paper. 11 pages, with one illustration of a palm. Together three works in one, 8 o (165 x 104 mm). Both printed works with numerous woodcut illustrations. CONTEMPORARY FRENCH BINDING OF PAINTED CALF, monogram in center of each side incorporating the letters M B C S, the Greek monogram includes the letter \KAF\k, with emblems including the sun, and s fermé , Latin motto NEC ARCTIOR NEC CASTIOR painted, gilt letters tooled on the smooth spine with motto CE NE FAIT MOURIR QUI FAIT REVERDIR, gauffred edges (green and white paint slightly flaked, some chips along joints, some restoration at corners and to spine); quarter calf slipcase. Provenance : sold Parke Bernet, 11 December 1952, lot 68. A RARE PAINTED BINDING, with emblematic designs in company with the texts on palmistry and physiognomy it contains. An esoteric binding, with no comparisons found. The only tooling on the binding is the gilt-lettering on the spine.
