INDIA] SOLVYNS, FRANTS BALTASAR A Collection of Two Hundred and Fifty Coloured Etchings: Descriptive of the Manners, Customs and Dresses of the Hindoos . Calcutta: 1796 [1799]. Two volumes, 20th century fabrikoid album with black paper leaves, the plates mounted to these. 17 1/2 x 13 1/2 inches (45 x 34 cm); a total of 186 plates in all, seven folding [of 250 issued], most with slips (possibly later] identifying plate number and subject affixed, some lightly hand-colored. Some plates with marginal defects entering image, lacking the text and section titles. Sold as a collection of plates not subject to return. A substantial fragment (of a work often found in fragmentary form) with the remarkable etched plates by Solvyns of Hindu costume. Portions of the original title pages have been retained.
