INDIAN MUTINY MEDAL, 1857-1858, 2 clasps, Lucknow, Relief of Lucknow (Hy McLeod, 93rd Highlanders); officially impressed. Once cleaned with a few light marks, suspension just a little loose, otherwise very fine and scarce. The 93rd (Sutherland Highlanders) fought with great distinction in the Crimean War at Balaklava, having formed the famous ‘Thin Red Line’ against the oncoming Russian cavalry. During the Indian Mutiny, they continued to maintain this prestige, during the Relief of Lucknow. During the Indian Mutiny 7 VCs were awarded to the 93rd. Sold with copy medal roll mention, confirming this award to 2285 Private Henry McLeod, 93rd Highlanders, and his prior entitlement for service in the Crimea.
