IRAQ AND THE MIDDLE EAST ̶ EADY, GROUP CAPTAIN THOMAS W.G. Photographic archive of over seven hundred photographs covering Royal Air Force service in Iraq and the Middle East, 1928 to 1930s 6 albums, oblong folio (average 230 x 280mm.), c. 655 photographs (from 40 x 60mm. to 25 x 280mm., or the reverse) mounted on card, mostly recto and verso, most captioned, together with c. 60 loose photographs, contemporary bindings, occasional minor wear and stains to images, one backstrip torn, other slight wear to bindings A large collection of photographs compiled by Group Captain Thomas Eady of the Royal Air Force who began his pilot training in Egypt in 1928. In 1930 he was posted to 84 Squadron, and later converted to seaplanes. He served with 201 Squadron and in 1936 was posted to 203 in Aden and was stationed in Basra, Iraq in 1937. The present albums cover Eady's training in Aboukir (Abu Qir) Egypt (2 albums), Aden, Yemen (2 albums) and Basra, Iraq (2 albums), and include many photographs of aircraft both in flight and at various bases, photographs of fellow officers and flight crew, aerial photographs, views on the Shatt al-Arab, shipping, local boats and people, and desert scenes.
