Ticonderoga to Africa and the Far East, written by its Chief Petty Officer. Scarce. The mission was to promote American commercial and diplomatic interests, and the ship called at over 60 ports, including Madeira, Sierra Leone, Monrovia, St. Helena, Cape Town, Bombay, Singapore, Hong Kong and Nagasaki, before returning by way of Honolulu to San Francisco. There the cruise terminated and Allen had his memoirs of the voyage published, evidently for presentation to his fellow shipmates, to whom the volum is dedicated. Following the memoir is a complete list of the ports visited, a description of the ship, and the roster of its officers and crew. On the front free endpaper and title page is the ownership signature of Oscar W. Clark, who is listed in the orster under oridnary seamen. Among the activities with which the crew entertained their various hosts was the game of baseball, it is noted that games were played for the locals at Nagasaki and Honolulu.
