ISLAMIC INDO-PERSIAN IRON HELMET WITH GILT CALLIGRAPHY 17th century AD A good quality hemispherical cap with rosette and tall square-section spike, adjustable nasal, two plume-holders and mail aventail to the rim; the nasal with lobed ends, curved bar within a rectangular bracket; the later spike with textured surface, balustered with tapering upper end; band of gilt calligraphy above the rim and two arabesque panels to the sides; the mail dagged, formed with 6mm butted links in a four-in-one configuration. 1 kg, 63cm overall (24 3/4"). Fine condition, some links absent, the spike later. Provenance Ex Dalloul collection; acquired in the 1960s.
