Italian Renaissance Walnut Center Table 16th Century and later The octagonal top with inlaid border, above a fluted frieze, the square base with an entrelac carved hinged door opening to a void, the corners with male and female term figures, the gadrooned plinth raised on paw feet. Height 33 inches (83.8 cm), diameter 54 inches (1.27 m). Provenance: Collection of Mr. and Mrs. Edward S. Harkness, 1 East 75th Street, New York Literature: Michael C. Kathrens, Great Houses of New York, 2005, p. 202, illustrated in situ in the Harkness Entrance Hall C
With previous restorations throughout, condition commensurate with its age, age cracks, losses, old marks and scratches, patches and shims to top, dings and dents, staining, top probably once rotation but now stationery, losses to molded edge, sunfading to base, age cracks to panels, door lacking key, losses, replacements and separations to moldings of gadrooned plinth, on panel lacking loop handle, losses to feet
