THE PRESIDENT AND SECRETARY OF TREASURY DISCUSS APPOINTMENTS Nine months after his inauguration, President Jackson recommends several men for government posts and asks Secretary Ingham to present his written recommendations to the Senate. "I return to your office the recommendation of sundry gentlemen presented for the office of receiver of public moneys at Edwardsville, Illinois, with the endorsement that Dr. B. Edwards will be sent to the Senate. If there are any recommendations for the Registers office Neworleans [ sic ], will you please send them to me; I am not informed as to whether Col. Pierce will accept that office, therefore, [I] hesitate to appoint him. If the recommendations are filed with you for the surveyor Gen[era]l Mississippi & Louisiana, I would like to see them as I wish to send it to the Senate with others on Monday next, with any others you may have to present..."
