Cameron's Cone From "Tunnel 4" Colorado Midland Rr .
Denver: W. H. Jackson & Co., [1881-1896]. Mammoth-plate mounted albumen photograph (21 ¼ x 17 inches, 540x430 mm, image size). Jackson's inventory number “1203” and caption in the negative. Condition: Light spotting in the image, remnants of prior mat being pasted onto the mount above the image. Matted. a stunning image taken from inside the entrance to a tunnel in the mountains near colorado springs. The image is extremely well constructed by the masterful western landscape photographer, using the sides and roof of the tunnel to frame the image, which depicts Cameron's Cone (which lies between Colorado Springs and Pike's Peak) in the distance with the railroad tracks curving slightly away from his camera toward a train's caboose with several well-dressed passengers posed in front of and on it. A print from the same negative is located in the Getty Museum.
