Jacob Eichholtz (Pennsylvania, 1776-1842) Portrait of a Gentleman. Inscribed "Jacob Eichholtz Pinxt" on the reverse of the canvas. Oil on canvas, 29 1/4 x 24 1/4 in., in a period molded giltwood frame. Condition: Minor retouch. Note: Jacob Eichholtz was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He had no formal training but was influenced by the work of Thomas Sully He painted portraits of prominent people in the Philadelphia and Baltimore area as well as landscapes.
