Jacques Barraband (1767/8-1809) Puerto Rican Amazon, young male (Plate no. 108, Perruche à Face Rouge, Amazona vittata Sheet size 190 x 12½ inches [503 x 317mm.]) The endangered Puerto Rican Amazon is presently found only in Puerto Rico, but up until 1899 it was also found on nearby Culebra Island, and earlier on Vieques and Mona Islands. In the 1950's, the population was estimated at 200 birds; and, in 1975, reached an all time low of 13 birds. Currently, there are about 24 to 26 parrots in the wild, including four breeding pairs, and 56 in captivity at the Luquillo Aviary. [ With :] The Australian King Parrot (Plate no. 55, La Grande perruche à collier et croupion bleu, mâle, Alisterus scapularis , male. Sheet size 190 x 120 inches [500 x 315mm.]) The King Parrot is native to the east coast of Australia. These beautiful birds are usually seen in pairs or family parties, although flock of up to 20 birds may be seen during the non-breeding season. (2)
