JAMES, HENRY Scholar's Collection of approximately fifty James titles , comprising first English, first American, later printings and later editions. Each in publisher's cloth bindings with few exceptions. Also included is an additional group of approximately twenty volumes of secondary works, including collected letters, biographies, etc. Some wear commensurate with age, handling and use, ink signatures, generally sound copies, issue and binding points not accounted for below, the lot sold as is. This collection was assembled in the mid-twentieth century by James' scholar Anna Louise Lowe and includes a finely bound edition of James' English Hours featuring her introduction. The collection includes: Transatlantic Sketches, Boston, 1875, first edition, good copy; French Poets and Novelists, London, 1878, first edition; Confidence, Boston, 1880, first American edition, good copy; The Portrait of a Lady, Boston, 1882, first American edition; Tales of Three Cities, London, 1884, first edition; A London Life, 1889, first edition; Essays in London and Elsewhere, London, 1893, first edition; Terminations, London, 1895, first edition; Embarrassments, London, 1896, first edition; The Ambassadors, 1903, first American edition, good copy in jacket; The Better Sort, 1903, first edition; The Golden Bowl, 1904, first American edition; Italian Hours, New York, 1909, illustrated by Pennell; and many others.
