Jan Frans van Bredael jr (Antwerp 1729-?) Village Scene with Figural Staffage and Carriage. Oil on oak board, 17.4x22.7 cm. Little genre painting depicting a group of people on carriage heading for village from river ford. Villagers chattering nearby are accompanied by curious dogs and fowl. Typical rural theme follows the family tradition of the van Bredaels and confirms period interest in wotks of this type. Not marked. State A, framed. Goes with Landscape with River and Rider and Figural Staffage. Oil on wooden board, 17.7x22.2 cm, not marked. Pandant to the previous painting. State A, framed. Large family of the Bredael lived and worked throughout the 17th and 18th century not only in Antwerp but also in London, Paris and Vienna. All family members strongly influenced one another and therefore it is not always easy to identify individual works and their authors. Jan Frans van Breadel Jr. son of J.F van Breadel Sr.(1683-1750), grandson of Peter van Breadel (1629-1719) and elder son of Alexander Van Bredael (1663-1721). J.F Bredael Sr worked in 1720 in London together with sculptor Michael Rysbrack J.F. Jr was raised under the influence of his father whose reputation was topped in 1746 by selling four of his paintings for collection of Louis XIV. Ausrufpreis: 150 000
