[Jansson Townbooks volume VIII]. Amsterdam: [1657]. 2° (475 x 320mm.) Latin text, hand-coloured engraved additional title with letterpress over-slip Theatrum in quo.. , heightened in gold, undated letterpress title with hand-coloured printers device, 58 hand-coloured double-page engraved town plans and views of Spain, North Africa the Middle East, India, Moluccas and Mexico, all on guards. (Light browning mostly to margins, slight discolouration of the green pigments.) Orginal publishers vellum, gilt roll-tool borders and central gilt arabesques, spine flat in 6 compartments with gilt tooled motifs, (lacking ties). A rare copy of the eighth volume of Jansson's townbooks, covering the towns of Spain and others in North Africa (Cairo, Algiers, Tunis), Middle East (Constantinople, Damascus, Aden, Isfahan), South East Asia (Batavia, Goa, Quintzai, Calcutta) as well as Cuzco in South America. The views combine both new plates by Jansson as well as those adapted from the Civatates Orbis Terrarum . Koeman II Ja 17.
