Engraved titles, 207 hand-coloured engraved plates, 1 double-page, after Selby, Jardine, Gould, Lear, Mitford and others. (Title-page to vol. III lightly spotted, vol. IV with spotting to some plates and text.) Contemporary half morocco (extremities rubbed), t.e.g., others uncut. Provenance : Dr S. P. Sparks MD (bookplate dated '98'); J. F. Symons-Jeune (bookplate). A FINE COPY. Although the plates are numbered to 110 at the end of the second volume, the plates of the third volume were numbered from 106; for a fuller note on this see Zimmer. At the end of volume III an advertisment leaf promises a new series of Illustrations . This was the contents of the fourth and final volume, issued in ten parts between 1837 and 1843.
