Java and the East IndiesCollection of 56 photographs, circa. 1880s 56 albumen prints (average 192 x 265mm., or the reverse), each mounted on card (mounts 327 x 460mm.) and captioned by hand in German in ink on the reverse, housed in a contemporary fitted buckram box with red label on the spine titled 'JAVA', occasional slight fading, box spotted and rubbed with some wear A fine collection of rare photographs by an unidentified professional photographer or photographers, showing views, bridges, portraits of Javanese people (and one of a woman from Borneo), farming, weaving, food, architecture, landscapes and ancient temples.
