JEAN-BAPTISTE JACQUES AUGUSTIN (FRENCH, 1759-1832) A young gentleman formerly called Jérôme Pétion de Villeneuve (1756-1794), in brown coat with embroidered floral waistcoat, frilled white cravat, powdered hair worn en queue ; together with a lady in blue dress with frills and bows, white lace fichu and cap over her powdered upswept hair, wearing a black choker (French School, circa 1775) on ivory ovals, 1¾ in. (45 mm.) high, gold mounts, the former set into the cover of an octagonal purple and brown engine-turned striped composition bonbonnière , the latter set into the cover of a circular tortoiseshell bonbonnière , the centre of the base engraved with a country landscape (2)
