Property from an English Private CollectionJOHN GIBSON(1790-1866)BRITISH, FIRST HALF 19TH CENTURYTHE TINTED VENUS signed: I GIBSON FECIT ROMAEwhite marble, on a scagliola column with revolving top, later painted blackfigure: 118cm., 46½in.column: 92cm., 36¼in. To view the Shipping Calculator, please click hereCondition ReportThe marble is in excellent condition, with evidence throughout of fine original finish. There are a few very minor natural inclusions notably on the band on her left arm, on her back and on the base near the signature. There is a natural minor impurity in the marble visible on her right shin and just above her bottom and notably on the Inside of her left thigh, where there is a larger natural inclusion There are various small old nicks to the bottom edge of the base and small marks in the drapery at the back and on the bun of her hair. The scagliola base has later black paint. The top is removable, with a revolving mechanism inside, but the top does not turn at present. The lot is sold in the condition it is in at the time of sale.
