Lot of 3 signed military appointments for John Dunning, Esq. —Clinton, George (1739-1812). Fourth Vice President of the United States and Governor of New York. Partially printed DS as Governor of New York, 1p, approx. 13 x 8 in., New York, NY. October 1, 1793 (Passed through Secretary's office and signed November 15, 1793). Military appointment of John Dunning to "Captain of a Company in the Regiment of Militia in the County of Saratoga whereof Samuel Clarke Esquire, is Lieutenant-Colonel Commandant." Also signed by Secretary of State of New York, Lewis A. Scott. Excelsior Seal affixed to top left of document. —Jay, John (1745-1829). President of the Second Continental Congress and First Secretary of State, Interim. Partially printed DS as Governor of New York, 1p, approx. 15 x 9.5 in., Albany, NY. April 25, 1800. Military appointment of John Dunning to "Second Major of the Regiment of Militia in the county of Saratoga whereof Samuel Clark Esquire is Lieutenant Colonel Commandant." Also signed by Secretary of State of New York Daniel Hale Excelsior Seal affixed to top left of document. —Lewis, Morgan (1754-1844). Governor of New York. Partially printed DS, 1p, approx. 15.75 x 9.5 in., Albany, NY. July 5, 1804. Military appointment of John Dunning to "First Major of the Regiment of Militia in the County of Saratoga whereof Deliverance Andrews Esquire is Lieutenant Colonel Commandant." Also signed by Deputy Secretary of State of New York, Archibald McIntyre Excelsior Seal embossed on left side of document. John Dunning (1767-1850) was born in Connecticut, and was promoted to general before his death on October 15, 1850. His father, also John Dunning (1740-1795) served as a lieutenant in Captain Isaiah Vail's company in the New York Militia during the Revolutionary War. Condition: First document fully separated along all creases, repaired. Second document has brittleness at bottom edge. Third document with some separation and repair at creases, and some discoloration throughout.
