Appointment of David Robb as "Captain [? missing paper] of a Company of foot in the 2nd Battn. of Associations in the County of Northumberland for the Protection of this Province, against all hostile Enterprizes, and for the Defence of American Liberty." Signed by John Morton as Speaker of the Pennsylvania Assembly. Morton was elected to the First and Second Continental Congresses (1774-1775). In the debate over independence, the Pennsylvania committee was split. Morton wavered for a while between the sides, but on July 1 he sided with Benjamin Franklin and James Wilson in favor of independence. The other delegates (Robert Morris and John Dickinson abstained so Pennsylvania's vote was uncontested. Morton also chaired the committee that wrote the Articles of Confederation, but died before that document was ratified (the first signer to die). David Robb was a member of the State Assembly from Northumberland County. Condition: Affixed to heavy paper backing. Moderate toning, folds, scattered foxing. Slight paper loss at intersections of folds, including some lettering (especially the appointment line).
