Beschreibung:

Itinerarium Aegypti, Arabiae, Palaestinae, Syriae, aliarumque regionum Orientalium by Christophori Fureri ab Haimendorf [Christoph Fürer von Haimendorf]. Nuremberg: Abrahami Wagenmanni [Abraham Wagemann], 1621. Latin. Second edition. A book recounting the journey of Christoph Fuerer von Haimendorf (1541-1610) in Egypt, Palestine, Syria and the region, in the years 1565-1566. The book includes six engravings (folding) depicting Mount Sinai, Jerusalem and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre (in the first edition of the book, printed in 1620, only four engravings were included). An additional engraving - author's portrait - appears following the title page. At the beginning of the composition appears a short description of the burial place of the Flemish physician Andreas Vesalius in the Zakynthos Island (apparently this is the earliest depiction of this site). This book was published posthumously, and at the end of the book appears a eulogy for the author delivered in Altdorf University and a composition with his family's genealogy. [16], 118, [113] pp + [6] engraved plates, 18.5 cm. Good overall condition. Stains, slight creases. Engraving plates are shorter than the book's leaves (trimmed margins). New cardboard binding. Provenance: Collection of Hermann Meyer and his daughter Channah Sapir.
