Typed Letter Signed (“Helen Keller”), 1 p, 4to, Forest Hills, NY, November 24, 1936, to Mrs. Arthur B. Leith, on personal stationery, mourning the passing of Anne Sullivan, light creasing, otherwise fine. Together with Typed Letter Signed of Anne M. Sullivan, 2 pp, 8vo, n.p., n.d., to Mr. Alexander, regarding the publication of one of Helen’s articles, leaves creased and lightly thumbed, 1 inch tear to upper margin of p 1. Keller writes this letter just a month after the death of the woman who taught her sign-language, tutored her through Radcliffe, and was a companion for 49 years. In part: “it is winter in my life since the guardian angel of fifty years no longer walks by my side on earth. Yet I thank God for the wondrous gift He has withdrawn a little while, and for the difficulties to be overcome that shall be my tribute to Anne Sullivan Macy.”
