Beschreibung:

Key-Wind Musical Box by Nicole Frères for the British Market, c. 1850 No. 16416, playing seven mainly Scottish and Irish ballads (Gamme no. 964), including "St. Patrick's Day" and the English song "Pop Goes the Weasel", with 85 teeth in comb (complete, one tooth neatly replaced), with brass bedplate stamped "Nicole à Genève", instant-stop, polished fruitwood case with red interior, drop-flap, sliding inner glass lid and tune-sheet with retailer's/repairer's label "H. Bradshaw, Watch Maker and Jeweller (20 years with M. Anderson), 30 Parliament Street", wd. 20 ¼ in. (51,5 cm), cylinder 12 ¾ in. (32,5 cm), movement and case in good restored condition. With key. - The popular English music-hall song and nursery rhyme "Pop Goes the Weasel" is an unusual choice for a musical box, especially one with a lyrical Scottish and Irish repertoire. "The Times" newspaper in London and "The Birmingham Journal" both mentioned a fashionable new dance by this name in December 1852, some fifteen years later than the serial number of this musical box would suggest, but quite in keeping with the style of the movement and case. Walzenspieldose mit Schlüsselaufzug von Nicole Frères, um 1850 Hergestellt für den britischen Markt. Nr. 16416, 6 zumeist irische und schottische Melodien (Gamme No. 964), darunter "St. Patrick's Day" und das englische Lied "Pop Goes the Weasel", 85 Töne im Stahlkamm (komplett, ein Ton unauffällig repariert), geprägt auf der Messingbodenplatte "Nicole à Genève", Sofortstopp hebel, poliertes Obstholzgehäuse, innen rot lasiert, seitliche Klappe, verschiebbare Glasscheibe innen, Melodienblatt mit Händler- oder Werkstattbezeichnung "H. Bradshaw, Watch Maker and Jeweller (20 years with M. Anderson), 30 Parliament Street", Gehäusebreite 51,5 cm, Walzenbreite 32,5 cm, Mechanik und Gehäuse in gut restauriertem Zustand. Mit Schlüssel.
