KHWAJA SHAMS AL-DIN HAFIZ SHIRAZI (1320-90 AD): DIWAN-I HAFIZ TIMURID IRAN, DATED AH 898/1492-93 AD Poetry, Persian manuscript on gold-sprinkled paper 222ff. plus 4 fly-leaves, each folio with 14ll. of elegant black nasta'liq arranged in two basic columns, each folio with one or two panels of calligraphy in a single central column, each column with double gold intercolumnar rule, text blocks outlined in gold and polychrome and laid down between variously coloured marbled borders, spaces left for headings, first folio lacking, opening page with text in clouds reserved against gold and margins with heavy gold and polychrome floral illumination, with 5 folios of preface and an illuminated bifolio with gold and polychrome headpiece, text in clouds reserved against gold and gold and polychrome floral illumination in the margins, colophon dated 898, folios trimmed, with one red morocco board, and one lacquered cover with stamped central medallion, one doublure with découpé medallion and borders, the other with paper panels applied in similar pattern Text panel 4¼ x 1 7/8in. (11 x 4.8cm.); folio 6½ x 3½in. (16.5 x 8.9cm.)
