AH 792/1390 AD): DIWAN SAFAVID TABRIZ, DATED 1 SHA'BAN AH 956/24 AUGUST 1549 AD Poetry, Persian manuscript on ivory paper, 209ff. plus 2 fly-leaves, each folio with 12ll. of bold black nasta'liq arranged in two columns with double gold intercolumnar rules, catchwords, headings in blue and gold, text panels with gold and blue rules, opening folio with gold and polychrome illuminated headpiece and the opening bifolio with the text in clouds reserved against a gold ground with polychrome floral illumination, colophon dated 1 Sha'ban 956, later owners' stamps and notes, areas of staining, particularly along the lower margins, binding probably original of brown morocco with flap decorated with gilt stamped central panels with medallion surrounded by scrolling arabesques, similar border, the doublures with decoupé central medallion and spandrels on cobalt ground Text panel 5 x 3¼in. (12.8 x 8.3cm.); folio 8 1/8 x 5¼in. (20.5 x 13.3cm.)
