Khwaja Shams-ud-Din Muhammad Hafez-e Shirazi "Hafiz", Divan; together with two additional volumes of poetry including Golestane Sa'di, in Persian, illuminated manuscripts on paper, [Persia, first dated Rabi' al-thani 977 AH (September 1569 AD) others sixteenth- and eighteenth-century] Three volumes: (i) Divane Hafiz, 190 leaves (including one blank flyleaf at each end), probably lacking a few singles, first leaf in eighteenth-century manuscript facsimile, double column, 13 lines in black nasta'liq, one illuminated miniature depicting court scene with men playing musical instruments, rather faded, leaves ruled in gold, red and blue, ownership inscriptions and stamps to front flyleaves, 170 by 98 mm. (written space 112 by 62 mm.), nineteenth century dark green calf with flap, spine and extremities darkened, a little rubbed; (ii) Sa'di Shirazi's Golestan and other works, 30 gold-speckled leaves (including a flyleaf at each end), disbound and incomplete, two illuminated headpieces, 12 and 15 lines, some leaves damaged with slight loss to text, probably early sixteenth-century (identified by late nineteenth century inscription to pastedown indicating a date in the colophon that is no longer legible), 228 by 140 mm. (written space 135 by 66 mm.), nineteenth-century morocco, spine ends and extremities worn; (iii) Unidentified Persian Poetry, 45 leaves (including one flyleaf), apparently complete, double column, 11 lines of delicate black shikaste, opening folio with illuminated head-piece, leaves double ruled in gold, early inscriptions and Iranian export stamps to flyleaves, 95 by 140 mm. (written space 90 by 45 mm.), nineteenth century morocco, some leaves loose, binding detached
