MARK OF PAVEL OVCHINNIKOV, WITH IMPERIAL WARRANT, MOSCOW, 1887
KING GEORGE I OF THE HELLENES SILVER-JUBILEE GIFT AN IMPORTANT RUSSIAN SILVER BRATINA AND STAND MARK OF PAVEL OVCHINNIKOV, WITH IMPERIAL WARRANT, MOSCOW, 1887 Of traditional form, decorated in the Pan-Slavic style, each piece repoussé chased with trailing foliage and flowers on a matted ground, the bratina on a domed foot and with four cartouches, one engraved with Greek initials below Greek Royal crown and surrounded by names, engraved over two cartouches with the date '18 Octobre 1888' the final cartouche engraved 'Athènes', the rim applied with a Russian inscription, the stand engraved with Greek initials below Greek Royal crown, the bratina marked under base and on foot, the stand marked near rim the stand 25 in. (63 cm.) diam. the bratina 9 in. (23 cm.) high 174 oz. (5,424 gr.) The intials are those of King George I of the Hellenes, Prince of Denmark (1845-1913). The inscription around the Greek initials reads 'De La part de Serge Elisabeth Paul' , which translates as 'On Behalf of Serge, Elisabeth Paul ' The Russian inscription is a celebratory adage. (2)
