Kitagawa Utamaro (1753?-1806) After Torii Kiyonaga (19th century) Color woodcuts: two long and narrow prints, one a vertically designed print of the two lovers Osome and Hisamatsu handling a decorative ball, signed Utamaro hitsu ; the other a horizontally designed print after the opening plate of Kiyonaga's erotic set entitled Sode no maki (Handscroll for the sleeve), showing a court page and a lady in waiting, an erotic allusive image to the one-night assignation between the lovers Princess Joruri and Ushiwakamaru (the young historical warrior Minamoto no Yoshitsune)--good impressions, faded and stained Vertical nagaban diptych (Utamaro): 23 5/8 x 4¾in. (60.1 x 12cm.); horizontal nagaban (after Kiyonaga): 4½ x 23¾in. (11.5 x 60.6cm.) sight; both prints affixed to mats (2)
