KLOSS, Dr. Georg Franz Burkhard (1787-1854) -- Catalogue of the Library of Dr. Kloss, of Franckfort... including Many Original and Unpublished Manuscripts and Printed Books with MS. Original green cloth-backed boards, printed paper lettering piece (some wear). PRICED in a contemporary hand, ruled in red. The 4,682 lots of the celebrated collection of Dr. Kloss, physician from Frankfurt, constitute an extraordinary group of incunabula and post-incunabula obtained shortly after the dissolution of the German monasteries. "A number of books bore early manuscript notes, which S.L. Sotheby ascribed, on the slenderest grounds, to the reformer Philip Melanchthon, an ascription which was emphatically contradicted by Kloss himself and a number of German scholars" (De Ricci).
