Die beiden Blätter sind im typischen Maghribi-Duktus geschrieben, wie er in Nordafrika etwa seit dem 10. Jahrhundert gebräuchlich war. Den Schriftduktus unserer Blätter findet man in dieser Form, voll ausgeprägt, bereits im 11. Jahrhundert. Er war noch bis in das Hoch- und Spätmittelalter (13./14. Jahrhundert) in Nordafrika, in Varianten auch in Andalusien weit verbreitet. Ungewöhnlich an unseren Blätter ist allerdings das Querformat, wie es bei den frühen in kufischer Schrift abgefaßten Koranen vor der und bis um die Jahrtausendwende üblich gewesen ist. Dagegen haben die maghrebinischen Handschriften in der Regel quadratisches Format oder Hochformat. Insofern liegt hier ein Indiz vor, daß unsere Blätter aus einer Handschrift stammen, die noch in der Tradition der querformatigen Korane steht, mithin also in das elfte oder zwölfte Jahrhundert zu datieren sein dürfte, sicherlich aber nicht nach 1200 (vgl. The Unity of Islamic Art, King Faisal Centre for Research and Islamic Studies, Kent 1985, S. (28)-29, Nr. 11). – Ränder mit kleinen Ausbrüchen und Knickspuren; stellenw. stärker gebräunt und fleckig. The characteristic style of our leaves can already be found in this form, fully developed, in the 11th century. It was still popular in North Africa till the High and Late Middle Ages (13th/14th century), in variants also in Andalusia. An unusual aspect of our leaves is however the quarto format, as it was usual in the early Korans written in Kufic before and around the turn of the millenium. The Maghreb manuscripts, however, are usually in a square or vertical format. Insofar there is evidence that our leaves come from a manuscript still in the tradition of quarto Korans, thus it can be dated in the 11th or 12th century, but certainly not after 1200. – Margins with small breaks and crease marks; here and there stronger browned and soiled.
