KREIHING, Joannes (1595-1670). Emblemata Ethico-Politica, Carmine Explicata . Antwerp: Jacob Meursius, 1661. 12 o (147 x 85 mm). Engraved title, engraved frontispiece, and 162 engraved emblematic plates, including 2 preliminary emblems and 160 emblems numbered within the text. (A few leaves loose, lacking final blank?). Contemporary vellum, manuscript title on spine (foot of spine repaired with adhesive cloth). Provenance : Samuel Edward Herrick (armorial bookplate on pastedown); acquired from Goodspeed's Book Shop, 1982. FIRST EDITION. The illustrations in this copy range from emblematical and allegorical symbolic representations to scenes from daily life. Landwehr calls for text to close on M6v, but Praz calls for text to close on M5v. Text here closes with "Finis" on M5v, but the copy is lacking M6, presumably blank. Praz, 17th-century Imagery I, p.389; Landwehr, Low Countries 421.
