One folding engraved map. Contemporary panelled calf (spines dry, slight splitting to joints of vol. II). Provenance : Lord Rolle (armorial bookplate). A FINE COPY OF THE FIRST EDITION IN ENGLISH. The first edition (in French) was published in the same year and prepared for the press by Jean Antoine du Cerceau. The work amounts to an eye-witness account of the Afghan invasion of 1721 and covers in some detail what was a particularly tumultuous period in Persian history. (2)
