Beschreibung:

Set of progressive proofs, staplebound in printer's covers (Mohawk Engraving Co., Inc., Springfield, Mass.). Measures 12" x 14". Very fine condition, some foxing. Jonathan Winters Cold War paranoia cover, extensively annotated by Harvey Kurtzman ("faces too yellow," "distortion in cheek," "messy chest," etc). Only two or three Help! magazine cover proofs with Kurtzman’s hand notations survive. Cover “progressives” in those days consisted of four or five combined sheets of paper: one each for the individual primary colors (yellow, blue and magenta) and then another with all colors together with black ink, comprising the image readers would see. The progressive proof was the final stage for an editor to review and catch any changes and Kurtzman, with his eagle eye, inevitably found numerous little glitches for the printer to fix before going to press. A unique item from the Kurtzman archive. Provenance: From the Harvey Kurtzman Estate Consignments Accepted for PBA's Next Comic Book Auction. Golden Age, Silver Age, Pre-Code, Original Art, Interesting Ephemera Sought. Contact [email protected] for details. PBA COMICS March 26th Comic Book Sale catalogues available. Supplies Limited. Softcover catalogues limited to 200 copies ($45 + $5 postage/handling). Hardcovers limited to 26 lettered copies, dust jackets, special limitation plates ($150). Contact [email protected]
