λ CHRIS MOON (BRITISH 20TH CENTURY) SELF PORTRAIT WITH BALLOON Oil on canvas Signed lower left 118 x 78cm (46¼ x 30½ in.) The prominent East London based contemporary artist Chris Moon, is a self-taught artist who has exploded onto the British and American contemporary art market in the last 10 years. Moon describes himself as an outsider artist who finds his reclusive nature combined with his obsession with colour, shape and form has sculpted him into the artist he is today. Moon's body of work draws upon past memories and events that he reproduces with a dream-like effect across the canvas. As the viewer, you are drawn into the work, layer by layer. The canvasses act as a record of places Moon has been, people he has known and experiences he has felt. Moon's work has been collected by international icons including Paul McCartney, Gemma Arterton and Michael Fassbender. In 2018, Moon was the subject of renowned film director Jack Bond's documentary An Artist's Eye. Bond had previously worked on projects with Salvador Dali, Charlotte Rampling and Vanessa Redgrave. The documentary focuses on Moon's working process and his dedicated but complicated relationship with his pictures. What Drives you ? 'Stubborness, selfishness, madness drives me' Chris Moon A world record price for Chris Moon was set in 2014 at Paddle8 with the hammer falling at $49,000.
