LA GUÉRINIÈRE, François Robichon de (1688-1751). École de Cavalerie . Paris: J. Chardon for Huart et Moreau fils, et al., 1751. 2° (441 x 289mm). Engraved additional title, 24 engraved plates, 3 folding, by L. Cars, A. Coquart, A. Aveline, J. Audran, N. Tardieu after A. Coquart and J. Parrocel, engraved headpieces to text, woodcut title vignette, head- and tailpieces and initials (some text leaves a little spotted or browned, 2I2 with small mark affecting one word, unobtrusive marginal worming at inner gutter of latter gatherings, 2 plates trimmed touching image). Contemporary French marbled-paper boards, contemporary manuscript lettering-piece on spine (somewhat rubbed, light dampmarking). SECOND, ENLARGED FOLIO EDITION, in a contemporary binding. École de Cavalerie first appeared in 16° format in 1729-31, and was first published in a folio format two years later. The second folio edition was based on that of 1733 (described by Mennessier de la Lance as 'un des plus beaux ouvrages qui aient paru en France sur le cheval'), and used the same plates, but with a reset text and the addition of the 'Traité du Haras', which appears on pp. 306-318. Brunet III, 769; Mennessier de la Lance II, p. 27.
