The wedding of Charles III, Duke of Parma and King of Naples (King of Spain from 1759) and Maria Amalia in 1738 were celebrated for three days at Palermo. The festivities opened with a "Te Deum", officiated by the Viceroy of Sicily, Bartholomeo Corsini; the cathedral was richly decorated by Nicolò Palma Palma also redecorated the facades and interiors of the royal and senatorial palaces for the balls and theatrical performances. Highlights of the celebrations, depicted in the engraved plates, included a fight between a lion and a horse, and fireworks held on the coast.
