Sheets of various sizes bound in a large album (525 x 470 mm), 3 parts published together: Dix grandes Tables, contenantes les pourtraictz des ceremonies, honneurs et pompe funebres, faitz au Corps de feu Serenissime Prince Charles 3 du Nom . Large allegorical and pictorial title-plate (2 etchings joined), 10 large plates consisting of 2 prints each (mixed etching and engraving), pl. 9 four sheets, some with letterpress, 16 separate sheets of letterpress, six joined to form three sheets. - Pourtraict du convoy fait en pompe funebre à Nancy Capitale de Lorraine, au transport du corps Ledit convoy figureé en 48. Tables . One sheet of letterpress with instructions on the choice of joining the plates to form a continuous roll, of mounting them as a huge wall picture, of binding them in codex form or leaving them loose in sheets; 48 etchings joined in rows of three or two. - L'ordre tenu au marcher, parmy la ville de Nancy capitale de Loraine, à lentree en icelle du serenissime Prince Henry IIe du nom . 12 etchings for joining as a continuous frieze, joined in rows of two. (Some repairs to sheet edges and old tears, mostly marginal, occasionally crossing image.) Modern half calf. Provenance : acquired from Marlborough Rare Books, 1988. FIRST EDITION of this extraordinary series, illustrating the funeral ceremonies in Nancy for Charles III, duc de Lorraine and the entry of Henri II. Claude de La Ruelle was the producer both of the events and of the publication, co-ordinating his own conceptions with the work of Jean de La Hière (designer), Frédéric Brentel and Matthäus Merian the elder (etchers/engravers), and the letterpress and plate printers. The first and finest part illustrates the Duke's palace in exceptional detail, showing his bed chamber, the Salle d'honneur , and the Salle funèbre , with their furniture, tapestries, carpets and painted ceilings. The two views inside the church for the lying in state and the funeral and the view of the new duke's procession show the enormous congregation, many cowled, others carrying nbanners, and the large orchestra of musicians, and the procession itself ebntering the duke's palace witness by hundreds of spectators.
