LAING, David (1774-1856). Plans, Elevations and Sections of Buildings Public and Private... including the New Customs-House London , London: Bensley and Sons for J. Taylor, 1818. 2° (562 x 368mm). 57 plates on 45 sheets, 12 double-page, engraved by James Davis after the author, half-title, list of subscribers, 2 leaves of J. Taylor's catalogue of modern books inserted at end (lower fore-corners waterstained at end, light soiling and spotting). Contemporary boards (rebacked and with new leather corners). FIRST EDITION. At the publication of this book Laing's career was at its height; but following a partial collapse of the building in 1825, serious charges of incompetence and dishonesty were laid against him, and his practice was ruined. Archer 171.1; RIBA 1716.
