The Remainder of the Collection of a well-known old Scottish Collector . Edinburgh: T. Chapman & Son, 13 January 1880. Together four volumes bound in three, 8 o (248 x 158 mm). Contemporary newspaper reports of the sale pasted on inserted leaves. Contemporary crimson half morocco, spines gilt, original wrappers bound-in, t.e.g. ONE OF THE FEW SPECIAL COPIES ON LARGE AND FINE PAPER of the sale catalogue of the library of the eminent Scottish bibliographer, librarian and collector. Laing was from 1837 until his death Librarian of the Signet Library; he possessed "an unrivalled knowledge of books, and all that concerned books, in every department of literature and art" (DNB). His large private library, which contained many extremely rare Scottish books, was, by his direction, sold at auction after his death. Fletcher, pp. 377-381. (3)
