Barry, 9 3/8 by 5 3/8 (sight), by Barry, smaller portrait of Barry laid down to lower left corner, 1880s, with photographer's blindstamp at middle left, in studio mat with "D.F. Barry ... Superior, Wis." label to verso, a few faint scratches, loss to corners and edges of mat, image crisp. The Hunkpapa Lakota war chief Rain-in-the-Face was instrumental in the Sioux Wars of the 1860s and 70s, at various points fighting beside Red Cloud, Gall, Crazy Horse, and Sitting Bull. It is also likely he fought at the Battle of Little Bighorn, and for a time he was reputed to have dealt the blow that killed Custer. David F.
