Paris: Charles Saillant and Jean-Luc Nyon, 2 May 1775. 8 o (190 x 126 mm). Contemporary mottled calf, smooth spine richly gilt, red morocco lettering piece (light wear to joints and edges). Provenance : Paul Lacroix ("Jacob Bibliophile" bookplate, his sale, Paris, Techener, 4 February 1839, lot 1923). PRICED in a contemporary hand. Guigard states that the collection of Laleu, "secrétaire du Roi, maison et couronne de France" (Olivier), was rightfully considered to be one of the richest of its time; a large number of the volumes came from the Hoym, Rothelin and Pompadour collections. Built up over half a century, it numbered 6,000 volumes. The volumes from the Elzevir Press, listed in a special index at end, amounted to 178. The catalogue is very well compiled, with its "Table" and, in the preliminaries, a concordance of the lots with the numbers in De Bure's Bibliographie Instructive . "Dans le Catal. De Delaleu, on trouve le détail des piéces de théâtre comprises dans les recueils" (note in the Lacroix auction catalogue. Blogie, II col. 12; North 237.
