LANDSAT SATELLITE – Seven photographs, c. 1980s. A collection of Landsat views of the world, including major cities such as Boston, New York, with Paris photographed in multiple wavelengths . Further details on the contents of this lot: 1) Boston from space - some 200 years after the American revolution. The Mystic, Chelsea, and Charles Rivers combine to clearly define the shapes of downtown Boston - Charlestown, Cambridge, and Somerville. Logan Airport’s multiple runways are clearly visible as well as surrounding river bridges. Lexington and Concord, sites of the first battles with British forces in April 1775, are located northwest of Boston. The site of the battle of Bunker Hill (and Breeds Hill) in June 1775, are just north of Boston and Charlestown. A Thematic Mapper infrared band makes all area vegetation appear red with the low reflectance water bodies appearing black. Large color photograph, 20 inches square. Enlarged section of Landsat 4 satellite Path 12 and Row 31 from 1982 on Kodak paper. 2) New York City and surrounding boroughs. The Hudson River splits the image with New Jersey to the left and Long Island to the right. Color photograph, 9 inches square. Landsat processing on Kodak paper. Light exposure calibration strips along top and bottom edges. 3) Kennebunkport, Maine. Heavy woods and vegetation shows in brilliant red with the Atlantic Ocean in black. Color photograph, 9 inches square. Landsat processing on Kodak paper. Light exposure calibration strips along top and bottom edges. 4) Philadelphia and surrounding areas. The Delaware River splits Philadelphia and suburbs along the upper right hand corner from Camden, New Jersey and other areas to the southeast. Color photograph, 9 inches square. Landsat processing on Kodak paper. Light exposure calibration strips along top and bottom edges. 5) Paris in normal three band visible light, with vegetation in green. 27 July 1984. Color photograph, 9 inches square. Landsat processing on Kodak paper. Light exposure calibration strips along top and bottom edges. 6) Paris with an infrared band included. 27 July 1984.
