Blasco Date: 1881 Description: xx, [6] pp. of introductory matter + 4-page facsimile letter + 118, 14 leaves of color lithographic facsimile of illuminated manuscript + 78 pp. of descriptive text. 31.5x22.5 cm (12¼x9"), modern half calf and cloth. Facsimile edition of the Lapidary contained in the ms. H.I.15 of the Library of El Escorial (Madrid) printed in colors, reproducing over 600 color miniatures and initial letters in the original. This was first book to come out of Alfonso's workshop, in 1253, written by Alfonso X the Wise. It was also the first book written in Castilian prose, or early Spanish, and the first relevant scientific book written in the Iberian Peninsula and in Europe. Lot Amendments Condition: Fine or nearly so, the contents almost entirely unopened. Item number: 256444
