Engraved chart. 85x57.5 cm (33½x22¾") including three large insets at top. Finely engraved copy of the chart issued by the Spanish government in 1825. It was copied by the Mexican government in 1825 without attribution and in that form is well known. The French Ministry of Marine issued a copy in 1826, of which the present chart is an example. The original issue of this chart was used by W.H. Emory in the construction of his map "Military Reconnoissance of the Arkansas, Rio del Norte, and Rio Gila". See Emory, Notes of a Military Reconnoissance..., p114: "The coast is taken from old Spanish charts, published in Madrid in 1825, kindly furnished me by Captain Wilkes." References: Barrett 3199.
