Beschreibung:

"Le Grillon." Original pochoir in colors on wove paper, 325 x 498 mm, from L'Art Décoratif théatral moderne (Paris: La Cible, Paris, 1919), signed in the plate (lower right). Matted. One of 400 copies. Larionov was one of the most influential of modern Russian artists. He helped found Neo-Primitivism through the avant-garde art groups Jack of Diamonds [1909-1911] and the more radical Donkey's Tail [1912-1913]. In 1913 he created Rayonism, acknowledged to be earliest manifestation of near-abstract art in Russia. He and his wife Natalia Goncharova left for Paris in 1915 to work with Sergei Diaghilev and his Ballets Russes. He remained in France where he designed sets and costumes (such as this Cubist "Cricket") and continued to produce other radical, provocative art.
