Plus 6 later ff. added at each end, plus 3 preliminaries, lacks original first f., otherwise complete, 5 lines each of text in a rounded gothic hand and of music on a red 5-line stave, rubrics in red, spaces between words and syllables in red, capitals touched in yellow, approximately one hunderd calligraphic initials of interlaced penwork design infilled in yellow and green wash one hundred and fourteen painted initials in red or blue with penwork infilling and surround in purple or red, twenty-two larger decorated initials in divided red and blue with penwork infilling and surround in both colours, some early additions, some wear but generally sound, antique-style later blind-stamped calf over massive wooden boards, metal bosses, corner-pieces and clasps, folio, 540 x 390mm., [Spain], [seventeenth century]. *** The central portion of the manuscript apparently of Dominican use as it includes Thomas Aquinas (f.122, his translation f.92b) and Vincent 'de ordine predicatorum' (f.135). Specifically Spanish saints include SS. Ildenfonsus, Eulalia of Barcelona and Isidore. In 1769 the manuscript was adapted for a church dedicated to St.Joseph, 'patrocinius', and six leaves were added at each end, the last signed by brother Francisco Xavier Martinez On one leaf is the paper seal on the Spanish Province of the Dominican Order.
